How Leonardo DiCaprio won the lead in Shutter Island

Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio’s moment of insanity was the reason Martin Scorsese picked him to replace Robert DeNiro as Shutter Island’s main man. This drama-mystery-thriller flick is Leo’s fourth Scorsese film and will be hitting screens soon.

The pick may not have happened if not for a manic moment in The Aviator, a Howard Hughes bipic. Legendary director Martin said: “It was that movie and particularly in a scene where he was stuck in the screening room for 12 days and nights talking to himself that I felt we were finding things.”
